Rp Nightshade, fengreen, & lettice, stamp them
together, then take e juice of them & as much vinegar
and boyle them together, then put itt into vessells till
itt be cold then anoint e temples very well with itt
& soake a peice of Linnen cloath in the liquor &
bind itt to the temples & forehead and itt will expell
the heat of the stomack and case rest.
For e Stone & Strangury
Rp the Kernells of cherry stones, dry them & make
them into fine powder, & drink some of itt in white
wine first & last, & at your meales in your pottage
you must continue with this powder 3 dayes at e
least in in this manner.
For the Dropsey
Rp clevers & stamp them & streine them &
drink e Juice in good Ale first & last, & make
good wort, boyle in itt instead of Hoppes, water
cresses, & the white thistle & halfe soe many
brooklime & matke water cresses & turn itt up
& drink thereof for a week or fortnith, & dry
water cresses & brooklime & make powder of them
put of your powders in your broath & in your bread
& bake into itt, but you must observe to dry as
much more water cresses as brooklime & soe use itt

To make the spiritt
of common salt
Rp of common salt dried first in a Crucible
of ij of fine potters clay dryed & beaten small
and searsed mixe the salt with e powder of
the clay & putt some water in them & work
them soe as they may stick together in a mass
then fashion them in sundry round or long peitet
let them dry near e fire then beate them slightly
and putt them into a retort not halfe full, & putt
to a large receiver luteing well to e retort or
else all e spiritt will flee away, give them fire
by degrees first with a small fire, and all the
improfitable water will come away, then with
a strong fire, you may see a white water come
forth w ch is e spiritt discending into the receiver
continue soe the fire soe long t you see itt
beginn to drop any more in the Receiver, and
itt is ended.
The use of itt
2 or 3 gutuloe given in persley water will presently
provoke Vine to those who are troubled with e
stone, itt taketh away e dropsye, and Leprosie if
itt be drunk in wine & purifieth e bloud; itt
take away e dropsey if 2 or 3 dropps be given in
wormwood water; itt corroborateth the head &
dryeth distillations & Rhumes thereof it comforteth
