Description

A booke of medicines. With other medical receipts, and a number of cookery receipts by Joan Gibson and by a second Joanna Gibson.

On the first leaf 'John Gibson 1634. A booke of Medicines', below this 'Joanne Gibson. Ars longa, vita brevis. 1669', and under this 'Joanna Gibson 1708'. On the verso of the last leaf 'Liber Joannis Gibsoni Anno Domini 1632', and inside the lower cover 'Pretium 1s'.

The last entry, by Joanna Gibson, is dated 1717.

Publication/creation: 1632-1717

Physical description: 1 volume 76ll. + 97 bl.ll. 8vo. 14.5x10 cm. 18th century calf binding, with upper cover missing and two defective brass clasps. A few leaves have been torn out. In the process of conservation it was established that the top board did not belong to the rest of the volume. Another top board or cover was made and attached and the old board stored in the same box with the item. The image in the digitized version shows the old 'foreign' cover.
