On the first leaf 'John Gibson 1634. A booke of Medicines', below this 'Joanne Gibson. Ars longa, vita brevis. 1669', and under this 'Joanna Gibson 1708'. On the verso of the last leaf 'Liber Joannis Gibsoni Anno Domini 1632', and inside the lower cover 'Pretium 1s'.

The last entry, by Joanna Gibson, is dated 1717.

43 How to make apricocks [apricots] cakes Take apricocks pare them cut them in pieces coddle then in a bacen [basin] then strtn [strain] them and weigh as much suger as they weigh let your sugar be well bet [beat] and sift then let your pulp an sugar be well drid [dried]: when your suger is is very hot and your pulp then put them to gether and set them on the fire stiring them all the while till thay be simmer then [take] them of [off] and drop them on your plates dry them in a oven or sun

44 [Aquad.ch.dray] Take good Lemons cut the meat very small furst paire them & take away the seeds Take as much dubel refined sugar as you think will make it sweet enough, wet the sugar in water set it on the fire, and boyle it to Sugar again, then put in the meat of the Lemons and set it on the fire till the sugar be disalved [dissolved], then put it in pots or glases it is good in wine to drink, or to put in Cream for the Table: doubel the weight of Lemons in sugare does well
