My dear friend:

Your lovely letter received and I will begin by answering your questions. Mr. M. stayed with a colored employee in the house Monday night. They have been there all week. The man makes the fires etc. William and Bella left Monday afternoon, of course. All my things were left, as I left them. [?Rusty] was taken quite unbeknown to, [me?], to Mrs., [Logan's] Sunday afternoon. The canned fruits I sent to Mrs. Bowen. Mr. M. had my trunks and several pieces of furniture sent

such a short visit. I never hear from Tom or Ray [Hartsough?] except at Xmas, when I get a card.

The same for Amy and Jack Smith I never hear from them.

Please write me again, Aunt Edith and let me know how you are.

Love, Nephew Charley.

Thurs nite 6 Aug.

Dearest Family, Rec'd Sis' letter this a.m., also a birthday card from Helen (no news but to describe the wheat fld's. of Eastern Wash. As if I didn't know that country!!) but happy for her card. Had our phone installe d today: $1500 "instl." & $4.50 a month!! (plus!) Number is: Anchorage 2395-3.

Coop's number (Base Weather) [Elmendorf?] AFB., Ex. 33 124. Continues to sprenkle so I finally took heart today to "[illegible] out" & wax the entire joint. Looks better for a few hours at least. Coop didn't take his trip this weekend - will be gone next Thurs. to [Sun.?]. Invited out for dinner Fri & Sat. nites - nice - but will have to re pay sometime. Love [illegible]

I am glad to learn of your being out with the widower, but sorry the sister did not stay at home. Leave her at home next time. You don't have to come home to do my canning and must not, in view of what is now before us.

Bro Frank writes that he is going to send me peaches and some other fruit this week, so I will have to take care of it and glad to have it too. I have canned 7 pt of tomato and several pints of plums. Fruit is abundant here and higher priced this week than last. I paid 20c for 1/2 [??] tomatoes. I am not buing any this week for I am expending
