Honolulu, H.I. Dec. 19, 1920

Dear friend Alice:

Received your letter of Nov. 26th. Had almost given you up, but I know how short life is. Sometimes, there is some very hard digging to do or I had to anyway.

I had a very nice Thanksgiving especially, the eating part. We had turkey, pumpkin pie, and many other things, too numerous to mention.

Phillip, who's arm was shot off while in the balloon, has been discharged. He got $10,000, so I don't suppose he'll have to worry about living in the future. Since then, the balloon hasn't went up.

The Company has just come back from the firing range. We were out there three days and firing all the time. When I came in at night, my ears were ringing. Could hardly hear another person talk.

The people here sure do believe in celebrating Christmas. They have spared neither time nor money in decorating their stoops. All stores from an ice cream parlor to a hardware store

sell toys.

Write with a pencil. I came from the farm and as plain as anybody, I think I will take up the city life after I get out of the Army, but never expect to let the city get the best of me.

The Y.M.C.A. will give a program and lots of eats next Wednesday evening, all free for the servicemen. Will write about it later.

How is Ross Field? I suppose some of the, [comfamp?], have left and others arrived. Wish the Third Company was back again. Is, [Holderfarm?], there? He got a furlough about three months ago and hasn't arrived here. Some of the boys said he reported for duty in Ross Field.
