Honolulu, H.I.
Dec. 19, 1920

Dear friend Alice:

Received your letter of Nov. 26th.
Had almost given you up, but I know how
short life is. Sometimes, there is some very
hard digging to do or I had to anyway.

I had a very nice Thanksgiving especially,
the eating part. We had turkey, pumpkin pie,
and many other things, too numerous to mention.

Phillip, who's arm was shot off while in
the balloon, has been discharged. He got $10,000,
so I don't suppose he'll have to worry about
living in the future. Since then, the balloon
hasn't went up.

The Company has just come back from the
firing range. We were out there three days and
firing all the time. When I came in at night,
my ears were ringing. Could hardly hear
another person talk.

The people here sure do believe in
celebrating Christmas. They have spared neither
time nor money in decorating their stoops. All
stores from an ice cream parlor to a hardware store
