Corol — Valves nearly equal — covered with short hairs — ye longest awn of ye length of ye longest valve of ye Calix. Upper part of ye stem somewhat hairy. Calex set with short hairs. Calex much longer yn blos. 8) The fring on ye keel — one row of long hairs — ye whole surface of both valves some what hairy Anth. forked at both ends — Threads or filat long — Anth — some times yellow & some times purple.

The spike has been found 5 or 6 inches long.

Straw cylindrical, striated erect hollow leaves rather broad, & pretty near together — joints short, swelled — commonly 6 or 8 in a straw, a leaf rises from each joint — leaves striated. The roots are always some wt bulbus — as ye straw ad= =vances to maturity the bulbs lessen — a runing root with many fibres goes out from ye bottom of ye bulb, & fibers round ye bottom of ye bulb. Several radical leaves — longer than those on ye stems.

Best grass for horses — Stokes call it [?]
