Ammonium carbonate ((NH4)2CO3), which readily degrades to gaseous ammonia and carbon dioxide upon heating. It is used as a leavening agent and a smelling salt. Aka volatile alkali, carbon of ammonia, baker's ammonia, hartshorn salt.
