Description
A chronic infection of the skin, bones, and joints caused by the bacterium Treponema pallidum subspecies pertenue, the same species of bacterium that causes venereal syphilis. It's transmitted by skin-to-skin contact with an infective lesion with the bacterium entering through a pre-existing break in the skin.
