Tonics

I have had no experience of it in this disease, I refer you
to a paper in the Phylosophical transactions by Dr Rush, the
nature of this disease seems to be perfectly understood, it is
excited by poisons taken into the stomach, the poisons are
mostly of a stimulating nature, and the disease seems to
depend on debility. I have however removed it by bleeding.

Choreia. Is a disease of debility according to Dr Cullen
occurring at a particular time of life, he advises bark and
steel, many authors mentioned its utility. I have cured the
disease by verry opposite treatment; Sydenham used evacuations.
A Plethoric state of the system calls for the lancet. I was once
consulted on a case of a lady in Lancaster, labouring under
this disease, the cold bath, Iron &c, had been used without
effect. I did not see her but advised bleeding, the Physician
was unwilling to try it but the bleeding so satisfied him
of the efficacy that he repeated it, she was verry much
relieved and the disease entirely disappeared. She was in a state
of pregnancy at the same time.

Pertussis. The
bark has been employ'd in this disease, but the proper time
to administer it is difficult to acertain. Dr Cullen says in
