That a person be Qualified to enter upon the Study_ of Physic & Surgery, it is necessary that he have a Thorough knowledge of the English Language Such an acquaintance with the Latin and Greek as to be able to Translate them with & help of Dictionary; also a knowledge of the Mathematicks and of Natural Philosophy._ any Person having received an Education at some College or University shall be_ considered as Qualified to enter upon the_ Study of Physic & Surgery, if not the Above Qualification obtained in some other course shall be deemed absolutely prerequisite.

In pursuing the Study of Physic and_ Surgery, it is necessary to begin with Anatomy_ that being the Basis of all other branches; to acquire a knowledge in this Fundamen= tal part of the latest and most approved_ Authors are to be read with such care and attention that the reader may be able to give an accurate account of the ends & purposes to which the Constituent parts of the Human body are subservient: and that he may_

be the more perfectly enabled to do this, he shall attend one Course of Anatomical lectures & Dissections at least.

The Materia Medica, and lhymis try are to be Particularly attended to, Then the theory & practice of physic & surgery, and to accomplish this important purpose more effectually, we herein reccommend attending one course of Lectures: Two years we think little time enough under the direction of some reputable and experienced practictioner, to be spent in these pursuits.

At a meeting of the Suffolk Medical Associat-^(ion) on Monday the 4 May 1789 at Ames's Tavern Dedham. Attended [?] Tufts, Wales, Mann, Jerauld, Drapen, Shepard, Richardson, [?], Alden, [Fogg?], & [Holbrook?].

Voted 1. to choose officers as [?] article of the institution accordingly [?] [Cotten?] Tufts Esq. was chosen President, [?] Holbrook secretary [?] Barker, Wales, & Jerauld [?]

One communication received from Doctor Wales a case of a [Lithiasis Renalis] One communication from Doct. Jerauld [as?] [?] file.

Doctor [Barthell?] of Rosbury having been prepared according to the rules of this [?] [?] was unanimously voted in to be a member of this association.

Voted to adjourn this meeting to [?] Monday in October then to meet at Tavern Milton.
