At a Meeting of the Commissioners of the Society
for propagating the Gospel - Boston 4 {October} 1770.

The {Reverend} Mr Samuel Kirkland who has for
some time past been engaged in the Indian Ser-
vice at Oneida, under the direction of the {Reverend}
{Doctor} Wheelock, having signified to the Board
that the said {Doctor} Wheelock is at present en-
gaged in erecting a College in the vicinity of
Cohosse and involved in such a [croud?] and
multiplicity of business as forbids the defreying
the charges of his Mission, as he would other-
wise willingly do: and that he the said Doctor
Wheelock hath said, he would be willing that
he the said Kirkland should put himself
under the care and patronage of this Board.
And the said Mr. Kirkland being present
having signified his desire to put himself
under their care and direction: the Board
were of Opinion and signified their minds
by a Vote, that they were ready to take the
said Mr Kirkland into their service & afford him
