Nor I,-- but my Selina's wedded to his son.
But see he comes,-- see that important phiz.
A speech prepared-- but that I must correct,
If interlarded with profuse encomiums
To hold me up,-- a paragon of virtue:
It may pass;-- of modern composition
That's the test.
Enter Hazlerod
After a curious and very extraordinary conversation, too lengthy
to be here inserted, Rapatio proceeds uninterrupted.
Rapatio--
My friend,-- my brother,-- or still dearer name,
Thou firm abettor of my worst designs,
Thy sanction now will cover half my crimes.
We'll more securely crush the scoundrel mob
And Claudia like, the citizens ride o'er
And execute, what Nero durst not do.
Hazlerod takes leave,-- moving hastily off.
Rapatio resumes)
I'll call my myrmidons,-- they shall attend,
Swell the parade with all the venal herd,
Gripe all, that minion of oppressive power,
And simple Dupe, a ready tool of state,
With virtuous Limpit,-- perjured only once;
Then indispensible to serve a cause
Which truth would ruin;-- doubtless they'll be there.

The second act opens with a procession.--Coaches, Chariots, &c, &c, &c
Scene changes to a chamber where the Divan meets;-- opened by a speech
in character by Justice Hazlerod, highly pleasing to the creatures of
arbitrary power, and equally disgusting to every man of virtue.
We pass over several very interesting scenes in the second
act, and proceed to the third. But the limits of our paper will not
permit us at this time to give our readers more than the soliloquy
of Brutus, who retires before the commencement of the fourth act.
Brutus (retiring)
Oh! my poor country!
I've waked, and wept, and would have fought for thee!
And emptied every vein, when threatened ruin
Lowered o'er thy head.-- But now too late I fear.
The manacles prepared by Brundos hand
Cruel Rapatio with more fatal art
Has fixed,-- has rivetted beyond redress.
