Rain! rain! Heavy rain last night and
to-day it has rained with intervals of let up though
the air has been saturated. This A.M. I copied
a chart of {English History} and then with my umbrella
& box walked up the Mt. road past 2nd brook
and got fruit of Steironema ciliata {ciliatum}. This
P.M. wrote some letters and then walked as far as the
2nd Brook above the Ark. All the brooks are overflowing
and beautiful. It was wet enough to rain though it didn't.
I had a pleasant letter from Elinor to-day. Answered it this
evening.

Mitchella by the brook to take home. In the P.M. drove to Fitzwilliam with Mrs. Jay &

A fox jumped on to the wall on the road close by us, and down almost into the street.
He retreated very quickly. I had a good sight of him. —
