Contains an alphabetical "Catalogue of Plants from Doctors Linnous [sic] and Hill," referring to Carl Linnaeus (1707-1778) and Sir John Hill (1714?-1775), as well as Manasseh Cutler's descriptions of plants in 1783, numbered 100-140, including Indian cucumber (Medeola), pigeon berry (possibly Rivina humilis), and yellow water lily (Nuphar lutea). There is an index to plants described in the front of the volume.

107 ye receptice, & yet not to cover it — it seems to be glob hemispherical — I am in doubt whither these flowers are not female as ye filaments & anthera, rather appear like Styles & Sigmata —

Stalk — hard & farm, round smoth rises 5 or 6 feet high & twins supports it self by its tendrels — or will stand prety erect without sup= =port — nearly as large as little fingure — Leaves, broad at base & tupering to end which blunt with a small sharp apex — 1 1/4 inch Broad 2 inch long — stand irregular on ye branches — long pedicles — nervose — sends out leafy brances from ye Ala. The leaf Stem has a husky broad apendage near ye stalk with double long tendrels — The Flowers rise from ye Ala — on long round slender stalks — on end stands numer small pedicles rising from same center, & from a globular bunch. 108 rich most land — near Walls & in hedges. The smell of this plant is exceedingly sickish & disagreeable — as offensive as putried Animals & have no doubt of its being poisonous — The berries continue untill fall as no birds will eat them.
