Misses Rainey & Phinney left this a.m. as well as our
two girls. They went down to see about their baggage
while we were in class, & later came back & had early
break; I didn't get to go to the train as I had my private
lesson. After studying, bathing & dressing, went down
to Saya Po 's to take pictures of the baby; took several,
& it was an hr. or more earlier than before, so ought
to get some good ones out of this bunch; am sure 2 are
spoiled, tho' as the infant moved. Loaned M.R. 25/&
told her she was my guest while here; she has her [Pro?]
Karen exam a wk. before the Burmese one. Got back
about 5:30, as I was served tea & cake while away. I. had
gone out to see Miss Southerland, but missed her. I was
following her, when I met Dr. C. & we stopped for a chat
then at the T's gate I met Mrs. Howard, & Mrs. M., with
Misses E. & S., B. & T. were just ahead of me, so they had
turned back with the others. Mrs. T. & Miss P. were here
when I first got back from town, but as I had my
arms full, having bought brown paper, some sort of
Red Cross tar soap, my kodak, umbrella, black bag
etc., I had to get rid of my bundles. Found notes from
Mrs. E. & Miss P. telling of my appointment at Mandalay.
When I came out they were all gone; asked Miss J. if she
wanted to walk, but she was studying her sermon for
tomorrow, so refused; met Mrs. S. & told her R. was study-
ing [studying] too hard so she dragged her out for a walk. Met
I. returning, so came back with her & went over to the
new house which the others had go to explore. Had
chicken mulligatawny today, & strawberry shortcake
for dessert – the first for a fortnight or more. I. also
got a note from Mrs. E. inviting her to stay there if
she came up for her exam; after her talk with Miss

S. this eve she is now more undecided than ever
what to do. I put tape straps on one of my union suits this
aft. & mended another
[net?] one to put on getting out clean, & putting away soiled

May 16, 1922 – Tuesday
Mr. & Mrs. P. who travel 1st class, & Misses E. & S. left this
a.m. The Kleins left yes. also; thus our numbers are
gradually reducing. Several went to the train, but I went
out the road to get some views of the valley; hope they'll be
good; took a whole roll, & got back in time to wave to the
people on the train as it passed. I. washed her hair;
Mine needs it, but I don't know when it will get it. After
break. I wrote notes to Mrs. E. & Miss P. & to Dr. Kelly. Just be-
fore [before] prayer meeting a note came from Mr. Wiatt telling
me of my appointment to Mandalay; some one asked me
while there where I was going , so at last I could give
them a definite answer. Rowley asked if I'd take next
bazaar with her, knew in my heart I'd catch it because
not able to go down for exam; of course I said yes; so
will plan to bake a cake tomorrow before our old cook
goes. Miss J. was scared when she led as her voice was
high, & trembled at times; but what she had to say was very
good – must tell her so. Mr. Harris is to lead next time,
Mr. Gates played again; he also gave a brief testimony,
which was excellent; many others talked or prayed; more
taking part than usual. I read Mr. H's theme in the aft. &
eve. Wore a red rose in my hair; R. & I nearly always
wear flowers, but the others do not seem to care for them.
Mrs. Hill & daughters called while we were out; I. was
especially sorry to miss them. Met Miss Robotham &
Mrs. Joseph on the road & had a little chat – mostly about
kodak film developing. Laid awake again last night;
it was towards morning, however; don't know what is
the matter – it makes me so mad! Beautiful cloud
effect in the west with electrical display this eve; last
eve before retiring most of us had a look at the lovely stars.
I want to read one my copies of Asia tomorrow.
