Patsy, alias Patsey George a free black
woman the daughter of Polly Blizzard was born free
as appears by a former Register obtained from the Clerk
of this County, is of a dark complexion has a small
scar, on the back of her left hand, full face
about thirty five years of age, and is five feet
three and a half inches high. The said Patsey
George is again registered of the above description in
the Clerks Office of the County Court of Surry
this 28th day of September 1840

Lavenia, alias Lavenia Baker, a mulatto
woman daughter of Sally Blizzard was born free as
appears by the Certificate of Ro: W Spratley aged twenty
four years, has a mark upon the finger nail of the
fore finger of the right hand, a mole on the right cheek
and is five feet, eight and a half inches high. The said
Lavenia, alias Lavenia Baker is [struck] this day [/struck] registered of the
above description in the Office of the Clerk of the County
Court of Surry this 28th September 1840.

This is a perfect example where the scribe's use of a capital C in "Clerks" and "County Court" can be compared to the the lower case "c c" or "c. c." which, as the clerk of court, follows his name in every one of these entries.
