This Indenture made this first day of January in
the year one thousand eight hundred and thirty six, between
Eugene Montalant of the City of Richmond of the
one part, and Etting Mickle and Gustavus A Myers
both of the said City of Richmond of the other part
witnesseth that the said Eugene Montalant for and in consideration
of the natural love and affection which he
has and bears for his wife Celestine Rose de Masurier, Boutin
Montalant, and for his children now living, to wit:
Julius Oliver, Mary Rose Clara, Fanny Leonide, Celeste
Corinne, and Eugene Etienne Montalant, and also in
consideration of Five Dollars to him in hand paid by
the said Etting Mickle and Gustavus A Myers, before
the signing, sealing, and delivery of these presents, the receipt
whereof is hereby acknolwedged, hath given, granted,
bargained and sold, and by these presents doth give,
grant, bargain, sell, alien, and transfer unto the said
Etting Mickle and Gustavus A Myers, and the survivor
of them, and the Executors, administrators, and assigns of
such survivor, a certain female negro slave, named
Francoise or Frances, aged about thirty two years, now
the property and in the possession of the said Eugene
Montalant together with all her future increase, whether
male or female, to have and to hold the said slave
Francoise or Frances together with her future increase
as aforesaid unto the said Etting Mickle and Gustavus
A. Myers and the survivor of them, and the Executors
administrators and assigns of such survivor forever
In trust nevertheless and upon the following conditions,
that is to say That, for and during the natural lives
of the said Celestine, Rose de Masureur Boutin Montalant,
Julius Oliver, Mary Rose Clara, Fanny Leonide, Celeste
Corinne, and Eugene Etienne Montalant, and of the survivor
or survivors of them, the said Etting Mickle and
Gustavus A. Myers and the survivor of them and the Executors,
administrators and assigns of such survivors, shall
permit the said negro slave Francoise or Frances and
her future increase to remain in the possession and
service of the said Celestine Rose de Marurier Boutin Montalant,
Julius Oliver, Mary Rose Clara, Fanny Leonide, Celeste
