In Richmond Hustings Court June 11th 1857. On the petition of Claiborne Moseley, Thomas Mallory, Emeline Brown and Elizabeth Hopes free persons of color emancipated since the year 1806, who desire to obtain permission to remain in this Commonwealth and reside in this City; it is ordered that the justices of this Court be summoned to attend here on Friday the 17th July 1857 to hear and decide on said application. Know all men by these presents, that I Jacob Sampson, a free mulatto man of the County of Goochland in the State of Virginia, do hereby presents emancipate and set free my wife Franky (sometimes called Franky Cross) and her six children own by me and in my possession which said children are known & called by the following names to wit; Robert, Moses, Eliza, Jacob, George, and John, which said emancipation is to take effect immediately after my decease and not till then.
