Richmond, Va. April 5, 1837.

Mr. Wm. Scott.

My Dear Friend,

Mr. Lanscay, much to my mortification, has come back to Richmond without bringing along Miss Medina's manuscript, - the pacquet left by a friend at Laenders & Otley's - or any thing else indeed from yourself.

Let me beg of you on the reception of this to procure from Mssrs. L & O's the parcel left there for me - and to pack it up among the other things you have for me - directing the same to myself, [underline]"Care of Mr. Richard D. Lanscay, Bookseller, Richmond, Va."[/underline]; depositing the Bundle with Mr. Theodore Foster, Corner of Pine & Broadway Streets, N. York.

Let me further earnestly entreat you to attend to this request, immediately on the reception of this letter.

If Flinn has not paid send me back the whole of the No's of his 2d Volume - as also all of those I sent for the Merchant (J. B. Wilson) who declined receiving the same.

You have never told me whether

you ever received the 1st Volume of the Messenger which I purchased for Mr. Coit - and sent on to your address.

You have also never told me whether you received the money from the Mercantile Library Association, Clinton-Hale, which I likewise purchased at their request - and sent on to your address. - I mean for the copy of the 1st Volume - [underline](bound.)[/underline]

Finances, my friend, are distressingly hard here just now. - Therefore, if you have been able to collect any thing for me, I must entreat you to send it on.

It is barely possible I may see you in N. York in July or August.

I have received but one No. of your paper in 4 weeks. If the Messenger for 2d. on March has been noticed by you, please let me receive papers.

Tell me when you write what Poe is driving at - that is, if you know; - but do not put yourself out to gratify perhaps an idle curiosity. I have not heard from him since he left here.

Present my best respects to your wife, and receive for yourself my friendship.

Truly yours T. W. White.
