6th. mo. 17th. 1861.

My dear mother -

Yearning thee would
worry about me - that I would
just send a little line this
beautiful morning to tell thee
I am feeliing pretty comfortable -
rested nicely last night - was
waked quite early by the firing
of canon and ringing of bells -
as they are celebrating the battle
of Bunker Hill - are going to
raise the Stars & Stripes from the
top of the monument for the
first time. The last time I
wrote to thee was feeling so much
better - was in hopes should not
have any more pull-backs - but
the next night felt pretty bad -
was very glad to hear the first
robin sing that daylight was
coming - suppose my blood is
