Mount Auburn Cemetery Boston January 6" 1871 In conformity with Article Second of the By Laws the Committee of Lots Make the following Report: They have attended to the duties therein assigned them - they have personally inspected each lot in charge of the corporation twice during the year- Upon the list furnished the committee by the Secretary in June last there were 147 lots which an uncle the ^special care of the Corporation of these 113 are by contract to be perpetually cared for and 34 upon which we are to expend only the annual interest received on the Sums deposited with the corporation by the respective proprietors At our examinatino in June last 54 lots were found to be more or less out of order which fact was duly reported in detail to the Superintendent Upon our Second examination in October last we found 67 lots which required the immediate attention of the Supt -------- to bring them up to the condition in which the lots

in perpetual care of the Corporation should always be kept - A Memorandum of the Lots needing repair was at once forwarded the Superintendent - A few of these 67 lots were in such very bad condition that the Committee deems it proper to call you for the interest and credit of Mt Auburn to call your special attention to the Subject, And to recommend; that as the number of Lots in perpetual care of the Corporation is now so large and constantly increasing, that two or three of the employes at the Cemetery be detailed as a Special force to keep the "perpetual care" Lots in proper repair - and the Committee further recommend that these Lots be in some way designated upon the Lots as in the "perpetual care of the Corporation" A report was received in November from the Superintendent of his actions upon the Stetement furnished him in June last. but as the October examination had in the meantime taken place, it was of no practical importanceall of which is respectfully Submitted Edward Austin }Otis Norcross] Com'te on Lots
