State of North Carolina House of Representatives Raleigh, Jan 14 1921

My Precious:

I tried to get time to write you at the Capitol, but did not get to, so I brought this paper to my room, and will have to use a pencil. I know you rather have a pencil letter than no letter.

Well we had a great day for the Inauguration. Mr. and Mrs. Townsend and Mr. Young and I went to the Reception. I don't know when I ever laughed so much. It was packed something and there must have been a quarter of a mill to shake hands with. We went to the Ball for a little while. It was crowded so you could not see anything. The women's dresses were awful and some of the boys said that they saw lots of women being [brought?] in the [????????] late, drunk.

Don't mention anything I tell you to any one. We had another Reception last night, at the Woman's Club. Another line of hand shaking.

We are beginning to get down to work, and it is a little more interesting.

Several of the men have asked me to home with them for week ends I have promised the Townsends to go with them. He is in the House, a lawyer from Dunn. They have two children. Mr. Young may go too.

I am going to Schumann- Heink with R.O. Everett's party. The men tease me about him. He is a big handsome fellow from Durham. He wanted to take me to the dance; and today he wante dto take me to lunch. I did not go with him

either place. He is certainly very attractive, but I am not looking for this side of the General Assembly. We are invited to a tea this afternoon to Mrs. Grimes.

Capt. McCorgi was at the Yarborough last night, and he had to tell me who he was. I had forgotten Mr. Waddell and Mr. Payton are here today.

Do you ever go to the Court House? I haven't put the Deputy Clerk's Bill in yet. Mr. Erwin asked me not to for a few days. Mr. Young and I had a letter from Tommy saying he and [?inds?aff] would be here Monday. I wish they would stay at home.

Mr. Young asked Mr. Griffin about charging me more and he said

it was a mistake, so I will stay on here. I like my room. I can always get real hot water. The little iron heats real good and I am crazy to try it out as a stove.

Mr. Webb was in to see me several times. I didn't know what he wants. It has rained here all day long, and it stands in the street.

Mr. Young is not well today. He wants to see that baby. I like Mr. Young he is as good to me as a brother. We get along fine together. I had a note from Elizabeth and one from Papa. None of the others answered my letter.

I was so homesick for you last night. I am always, unconsciously looking for you. Well it is only

about six weeks now until we are through here.

I had supper last night with two girls in the Educational Dept. of the State. One was from Frankin and so sweet.

Mrs. Griffin does the Social Side here. She takes all the Yarborough Ladies to the functions in her car.

Dr. Anderson, at the State Hospital sent me a green orchid the other day.

I hgave so much to tell my darling that I will have to talk two weeks, but now I will have to close by saying that I love you, love you all the world.

Your own Ex.
