Bremen, Germany Nov.21, 1945

My darling Wife,

Well, here I am in Bremen. Arrived yesterday morning but wasn't placed in an outfit until in this afternoon and it was too cold to do any writing. The house I am in now was damaged, i.e., the windows were blown out by close hitting bombs and then no fire didn't help matters. This morning FORM 539 A [printed in bottom right corner of stationary]

we fixed the windows as well as possible with rags, paper, etc., and when we left after lunch a civilian was there checking the furnaces. The houses are made up of small apartments and each apt. has its heating system. It was so uncomfortable that we picked up passes, came to town and made our evening meal donuts and coffee. However, tomorrow we should be comfortable enough.

Now, for the in between news. We traveled from Wiesbaden to Frankfurt by truck, leaving after 3:00 pm and the train pulled out of Frankfurt close to 6:00 pm. Sat up on the train but were most fortunate in riding in coaches. Arrived in Bremen a little after 7:00 AM and stood around the station waiting for the transportation. Didn't send enough trucks so a part of us went to the Red Cross for donuts & coffee and to wait

for the next trip. The trucks took us to 29th Div. Hq which is located in a small place about 20 minutes ride and it was time for lunch. There were 8 men in our party and after lunch we were assigned to a Regt., and are all together. While at Div Hq I looked up Hopkings and last night I saw both he and another fellow, Soderstrum[?] that was with E.J[?]. It's cold up here. Being on the water the cold is penetrating and last

night I nearly froze. When we hit Regt. Hq yesterday afternoon I ran into Alex Mebane, who worked for Brarnwell Bros in Burlington. I was surprised and pleased to see him. He hasn't enough points so will not sail with us this Div. I have also found that I my score is well above the average in this div. which is also true for all in our small group. A couple of us went below[?] as to visit the Inspecting Generals Office, a Lt. Col.k to
