no fish, no weed, no birds. nothing but head winds. how & when
I am to make my eastern I do not know. 30 days out. it looks
like a long passage. am to the leward and cannot get up. Shall
stand on this (Port) tack as long as I can head S.S.W. or S.W.byS.

16th Nov [NOVEMBER] All this day fresh brezes & pleasant weather passing clouds
I am now on the Line 31 days from Boston. Longitude 32 23'
Ive no chance to get eastward. heading S.byW. to S.S.W.
cannot stand on the other tack without making too much
northing. Must stand on for the Land. Shall evidently
fetch 2 [DEGREES] to the leward of Roques heading as she does
at present. I know of no better way than to let her go as
far as she will fetch. And trust to Luck

17th Nov [NOVEMBER] this day fine breezes & pleasant passing clouds. all sail set by the wind few F. fish. few birds. no weed. One sail bound south. no chance for a
slant to the east. heading south to S.byW. shall stand on for
the land if there is no alteration. hard luck but go she must

18th Nov [NOVEMBER] this day fine breezes from the E.S.E. .. E.byN. & east pleasant
weather. all sail set by the wind. have been favoured these 24 hours
it looks like fetching by the cape at present. Gulls in flocks
probably from the Rockas. I have been lucky thus far as I have
been by the wind for 28 days, close halled. Braced sharp
I have great faith in Maurys heading now S.S.E. fine breeze

19th Nov [NOVEMBER] this day breezes & pleasant all sail set passing clouds
the wind halling to the northward at night as it has for 2 nights
past. no weed few F fish, few birds. I have been wonderfully
favoured for 3 days past by the wind halling tothe southward
at 8 A.M. set studding sails low & aloft the first time for 29 days
at 12 M. Cape St. Roques hove N.W.byW. 113 miles 3 days
fromthe Line. I think it first rate. by having Maurys
directions, I think I have shortened my passage 4 or 5 days
