August 21st 1859. Latter part light breezes from East.
Pleasant. Large quanties [QUANTITIES] of weed. tide rips. Bogus trades.

August 22d. First part light breezes from East & pleasant.
Middle South. Latter part East. pleasant. Barometer high.
Weed & tide rips. no fish. no birds.
The chance looks very unfavourable [UNFAVORABLE] to make a fair passage.
I ought to have trades in this Latt [LATTITUDE] at this season of the year.

August 23d. First part moderate. East. Middle & latter part
fresh breezes E.N.E. Heavy sea from S.E. Little or no weed.
Verry [VERY] fresh trades high glass.

August 24th. First part wind E by N. . E. by S. East.
Passing clouds. Latter part E by S. Moderate. I fear I
shall not get the trades North of [COST?].
no weed no birds no fish. Heavy sea from the S.E.
The chance look hard allthough [ALTHOUGH] I am in a good position.
Hoping for the best. Let her slide.

August 25th. First & middle light breezes E by S. E by S
mostly cloudy. Latter part moderate E. ENE.
No weed no birds no fish. In company with a Clipper ship.
Winds variable very unlike the old fashion N.E. trades.

August 26th. First part fine ENE trades. Middle ENE.
moderate. Latter part fine fresh trades ENE. pleasant.
Passing clouds no weed No fish no birds.

August 27th. First part fine breezes ENE. Passing clouds.
Middle fresh NE by E. light squalls.
Latter part NE. Moderate heavy sea from East.
The Barmoeter falls. I fear the trade is about leaving.
I think the Barometer a first rate guide.

August 28th. First part wind N.N.W. & W. Light squalls.
Middle light airs SW. South. Latter part South & SW. Light airs.
Heavy swell from Eastward This is certainly unusual to loose [LOSE] the
trades this far North. I have had but about 4 days regular trades.

August 29th First part light airs from S.E. Middle ESE.
Latter part light breezes East. Old swell from S.E. Pleasant.
I have not experienced any Westerly current yet.
The Barometer steady except the flood [FLOW] & ebb which is regular.

August 30th. First part wind ENE moderate & plesant [PLEASANT].
