In the course of last night an unexpected snow storm occurred. This morning the Snow nearly ½ foot deep, but not cold nor windy.

This morning we had another Snow storm which continued till noon, and finally proved a considerable Snow storm, of 6 inches deep. If winter sets in and continues as it now appears, it will fare hard with many, particularly those who are absent from the Island & expected.

Gilbert Coffin is married this evening to Phebe Jenkins widow of Francis.
He is aged 81 and she about 70 years.

Very cold Thurr. [THERMOMETER] this morning at 8° above. The harbour [HARBOR] freezing over very fast.

This morning the cold not so intense but very chilly, and looks likely for a Snow storm, at 11 o'clock began to snow wind SE. Steam boat expected with a number of Nantucket passengers. The harbour all froze over.

The winter commenced with hard winds and Cold, Snow and rain. I believe the Island is pretty well wooded, and every kind of provision plenty, land not very dear. Wood 7 $, Flour 5.75 Corn 62 Cents. And most people that wants work can find it.

The harbor is now covered with Ice. This morning pleasant NW wind, this afternoon, wind Easterly & looks likely for a Snow storm.
Thurmr. [THERMOMETER] ranges 6 to 10.
The weather very changeable.
This morning the cry of Fire alarmed the it was about 4 o'clock. It proved to be Henry Swift's Try house Chinmey, No damage sustained.
