From Baltimore to River Plate 1859

September 26th 1859. Middle wind SSE & squally. Latter part wind SE. Light bafling [BAFFLING]. Barometer high. Heavy sea from SW. Dusty appearence [APPEARANCE] to the SE.

September 27th First part wind East light squalls. Middle wind ENE. Passing clouds. Latter part wind NE light squalls & clear at times. Barometer high & unsteady fluctiacating [FLUCTUATING] one tenth. Weather appearing pleasant. If my observations are correct I have had 20 miles SW current.

Sept 28th First part wind NNE. Passing clouds fresh. Middle wind WSW to SW. Squally. Latter part wind SW & WSW. fine pleasant. All sail set by the wind. Latter part Barometer Steady.

Sept 29th First part wind WSW. W fine breezes passing clouds. Middle fres [FRESH] Gales & heavy Squalls. Latter part fresh gales & squally. At 12 M. [MIDNIGHT] wind shifted to the SE. in a squall. Barometer has been very low this day. Now rising. Weather appears good just now.

Sept 30th First part wind SE fresh & squally. Middle SE. & SSE heavy squalls large sea. Latter part wind South to SW. passing clouds & pleasant. Barometer low all the 24 hours. Raising [RISING] latter part.

October 1st 1859. First part wind SW fine breezes. Middle SW.S. morderate [MODERATE]. Latter part light airs SE & calm. At 10 a.m. sounded 75 fathoms soft mud. If my observations are correct I have had 30 miles current West.

October 2d All this day Calms. Calms. Calms. Latter part light air from West. Fog from 9 to 11 a.m. Either a Gale or a calm. A hard chance is mine. Landsmen pray pitty [PITY] me soaling [SAILING?] on the troubled sea.

Oct 3 First part light airs from West & pleasant. Middle light airs & calm West. Latter part morderate [MODERATE] breezes from South to East. Barometer steady.

December 23d Sea Account 1859.

At 12 M [MIDNIGHT] took steam & towed down to Pay Islant [ISLAND]. At 3 P.M. cast of [OFF] Steam & made sail. Wind NE fine breezes & pleasant. Middle & latter part the same.

24 Dec [DECEMBER]. Fir [FIRST] Second & Latter part fine fresh breezes & pleasant weather. All sail set by the wind.

25 Dec [DECEMBER] All this day fresh breezes & pleasant weather passing clouds. All sail set by the wind.

26 Dec [DECEMBER] Monday All this day fresh winds & passing clouds. All sail set by the wind.

27th Dec [DECEMBER] Tuesday All this day fine breezes & passing clouds. All sail set by the wind.

28 Dec [DECEMBER] Wednesday First & middle part fine breezes & passing clouds. All sail set by the wind. Latter part fresh winds & squally. Light sails furled.

29th Dec [DECEMBER]. Thursday. First part fresh winds & passing clouds with squalls of wind & rain. Middle Squally rain. Latter part fresh breezes & passing clouds. A hard chance to get North this. Look gloomy.

30th Dec [DECEMBER] Friday First part fresh breezes & cloudy. Middle morderate [MODERATE] & passing clouds. Latter part morderate [MODERATE] passing clouds. All sail set. Very bad chance to get North.
