[18] True Copy Wm Bruce Asst. [19] Muscat 18th May [20] 1802 [21] Received per Brig Shannon [22] on the 6th July 1802 [23] To [24] Mirza Mehedy Ally Khaun, [25] Resident [26] at Bushire [27] Sir [28] I have had the pleasure to receive your letter per Sadree endorsing a further [29] Remittance of Piasters 2000 /two thousand/ on account of the Honble Company [30] for which I shall publicly account [31] I am sorry to be under the necessity of expressing to you [32] My astonishment at your conduct in having asserted in your letter to Government [33] dated Bushire the 15th December last that on the occasion of Bay being [34] detained at the Mouth of the River and plundered by the Benettaba [35] Arabs, those Arabs tore to pieces English Colors delivered by me to her Commander [36] on Roquadah here, particularly as You are well aware of the nature of My [37] Sentiments on the Subject of furnishing Country Boats with English Colours and that [38] neither Myself nor Capt. Malcom during his late Embassy to Persia ever - [39] contested to Your Suggestion of entrusting such Colors to the Charge of such [40] People; I flatter Myself You will on reflection be convinced of the extreem [41] Improptrity of making incorect Representations on this Subject and that you [42] will be more guarged in future in your official Communications [43] When the Bay was detaiend and plundred by the Benettaba [44] Arabs she had not any British Colors on board her [45] The Ship Shrusberry is now on Departure for [46] Bushire on her way to Bengall and her Commander will receive Charge [47] if any advices you may wish to entrust to his Care for Government [48] I have the honor to be [49] Sir [50] Your very Obedient humble Servant [51] Singed Samuel Manesty [52] True Copy Wm Bruce [53] Maghil near Bussora [54] the 16th July 1802 [55] and received per Shrewsbery [56] on the 25th July
