short speech -- saying that he hoped his fate would be a warning to all boys to keep clear of the whisky shops -- I was sorry indeed for him I could not stand to stay & see the horried sight -- I hastily got out and left -- As I got around the corner, I heard the drop fall, & looking over the fences, I saw the four black heads revolving slowly around -- a shocking sight --

At the funeral of Jesse Dickson our brass band performed its first duties on any public occasion-; we played the beautifully solemn funeral dirge "Adeste fideles"-; a great many of those present were weeping.

In August of this year, I received a visit from the Rev. the/E.L.T. Blake of Tallahassee-; he was a lovely man -- I was much attached to him -- We played chess together a good deak-; as we were sitting at a game during this visit, I had a call to visit Rev. E.J. Williams the minister of the Presbyterian Church, who was taken most violenetly & alarmingly sick, with [erysipelas?] in the head-; which spread with great rapidity -- after a violent sickness of 2 or 3 days, he died-; he was a Godly man-; had a lovely family -- I was employed as his physician much to the indignation of good old Dr Davidson of his flock, who was very much put out at being neglected for me -- This attack of [erysipelas?] was so malignant & over-whelming, that if Mr W. sank under it very rapidly -- the disease went in to the brain; & he soon became unconscious, and died on Wednesday (I think) when I was first sent for on Monday --
