My dear Brother,

My appointed
time for writing to you, has again
rolled around and I
perform this pleasure with an
excited mind between sadness
and joy. This morning at seven
o'clock ten of us took our first
riding lesson of Mr. Ellie, seven
of us having never rode before.
Before proceeding farther
I suppose you would like to
know who they are. Miss Lloyd,
Barthes, Folger, Heald, Page, McCulloh,
Ward, Beals, the Misses
Dickey & myself. He gave me
the highest horse of the lot because
it was the gentlest.
At first I was very much
frightened, so one of the hostlers
led me around the ring twice,
