and hereby do confer, the Degree of Bachelor of Doctor of Laws on
Edward S. Chapman, Ph.D., Professor of Minerology and Geology in
University College, Toronto.

A petition was read from Mr. James A Hope, M.A.
praying the Senate to confer on him the Degree of Bachelor
of Civil Law. The Senate resolved that they could not confer
the Degree requested, and instructed the Registrar to answer
the petition.

The Annual Report of the Curators of the Library
was read and adopted.

Decision on University
Prize Essays

In accordance with the decision of the gentlemen
appointed to examine the Essay on Confederation, the Senate
resolved to adjudge the Prize to the Essay bearing the
motto, "Union is Strength".

In accordance with the decision of the Examiners
of the Essay on Auerent Oratory, the Senate resolved
that it should not receive the Prize.

In accordance, with the decision of the Examiner
of the Essays on Presbyterianism and on the Sabbath,
the Senate resolved to award to them their several
prizes.

Announcement of University
Prize Essays

It was agreed that the following University Prizes
should be announced at the ensuing Meeting of
Convocation.

I. The Toronto Prize of $40 for the best Essay
on the "Advantages of a University Education" open
to all Students.

II. A Graduates Prize of $30 for the best essay
on the "Rise and Progress of Dramatic Literature
in Ancient Greece". Open to all Students in Arts.

III. The Montreal Prize of $40 for the best essay
on "Reasoning by Analogy with Illustrations". Open to
all Students in Theology.

IV. Church Agents Prize of $25 for the best
Essay on the "Advantages and Responsibilities of
Connection with the Parent Church". Open to all students
in Theology.
