of his fellow Trustees is very precious to him, and as he regards
the work of British Unification by State-owned
telegraphs as but commeneed, the opinion of the Board
cannot fail to prove a great incentive to further
efforts. The chancellor desires that, in acknowledg-
ment of the action of the Board, an expression of his
cordial thanks to his fellow-Trustees be similarly recorded."
Following the expression of this kindly reciprocal feeling
between the Chancellor and the Trustees came the
most important event of the meeting.
The Chancellor having reported the happy issue of
his correspondence with the Rev.Dr.Gordon, in that
gentleman's willingness to accept the Principalship of
Queen's, the Board by unanimous resolution said -
" It is hereby agreed, that the Rev.D.M.Gordon, D.D., be,
and is hereby, appointed Principal of Queen's College
at Kingston, and Primarius Professor of Divinity therein,
in accordance with the Charter and Statues of the
University."
It being most desirable to have the new Principal take
his place at the head of Queen's at the earliest
possible date, the following memorials were prepared
and forwarded without delay to the Board of Management
of the College at Halifax, and to the Presbytery of Halifax:
