[Letterhead Top] SAPIENTIA ET DOCTRINA STABILITAS

1902-03

Dear Brethren: It will be already known to your Board
that the Trustees of Queen's College at Kingston, have
appointed the Rev.Daniel,M.Gordon,D.D., on of your
Professors, to the Principalship of the College and
University under your care. They consider it most
fortunate that the appointment has been made, and
made in such a way as to secure the hearty
sympathy of some of the most prominent members
of your Board. Having thus acted in unison with
the authorities of the Halifax College, we crave still
further and larger sacrifice on your part. The Trustees
are not unaware that it would be desirable for you
that Dr. Gordon should complete the session with
you; and were it only for the sake of securing his
services as a Professor, we would not make any
request, as we are resolved not to expect Dr. Gordon
to lectur during this session, even if he were here;
but most of you know that the affairs of Queen's
University, being in a transition state, are in such a
position that it is exceedingly desirable that during
the wiunter the responsible head thereof should be
with us. The Trustees, therefore, ask respectfully that
your Board shall, as soon as convenient, meet, and
that they shall grant the request of the Trustees,
and release Dr. Gordon from his present position,
