On the occasion of the presentation to the University
of the Kingston Hall, the valuable gift of the City,
it was decided that the Trustees should place on
record their deep sense of the generous and
enlightened liberality which found appropriate
expression in this practical and useful form. The gift
of private citizens have at all times in the history
of the University, marked and stimulated her
progress. the names Mowat, Carruthers,Doran,Watkins
and others of our citizens, must always be associated
with the remarkable growth and development of
Queen's. those acts of private beneficence are now
followed by an act of the municipality which may be
characterized as unique. in the history of Education
in Canada there is no similar instance. The corporation
of the City of Kingston takes first place among the
municipalities of the Dominion in its distinguished
regard for the mental elevation of our people. and
the gift which today is formally offered by the
mayor on behalf of the whole body of citizens.
With singular appropriateness, Mr. Mayor, you have
selected this day, the 5th of Dec,1902, to present
