It was evident from the spirit which the committee was met by the Faculty that there would be no obstacle to the union of the Royal with Queen's and on receiving the report of the Committee, the Board of Trustees immediately proceeded to consider the question of the proprosed new Chair. The Principal rehosted, that a constructed last year, he had considered the subject and believed that the action to be taken, mainly depended on whether the professor received as the chief, part of his income the fee now paid unto the Royl for the subjects of physiology and histology. That the Faculty of the Royal had expressed their willingness, at the conference just held with the committee that these subjects should be taken over by the University in the same way as chemistry, but as the amount to be derived from fees could not be depended on as a fixed amount, he considered that a salary of $1000 as year, along with $150 for a Fellow, and the annual average expenses of the department would exceed the amount received from fees by five or six hundred dollars. This defecit would be reduced by the three hundred dollars voted through not paid for tutors. He also reported that if the Board decided to divide Professor Fowler's Chair, and appoint a Professor to the propsed new Chair of General Biology, be himself and a friend (the Chancellor) would guarantee to the amount... 1891-92 |
