Wednesday 12th [underlined] (Continued) dinner had to go up again, after our missing case & rode back. Loman accompanied me. He is one of the black boys we "picked up" at Port Blaze & is under my direct charge until they all embark on board the "Venture" for the Melville Isd. trip. All were busy throughout the day. Thursday 13th [underlined]. Cold Easterly wind blew early in the morning making the blankets feel too thin. Our mysterious friend on the roof, still carries on his capers under cover of darkness. I think it must be either an iguana or an opossum, as they are about here, but Mr. Gee declares it is either an elephant or a camel. Day was fully occupied at the Bungalow. Mr. Playford called. Went with Mr. Basedow to Mr. Bleeser's in the evening. Mrs. B. was an Adelaide girl & knew Burings. Friday 14th [underlined]. One week more! S/S "Guthrie" is at the Jetty this morning. Mr. Basedow met a friend of his Mr. Patersen, who had arrived by her. He is Swedish Consul for South Africa, & is making another extensive tour to Japan. Took Loman on board the "Guthrie" & showed him round. He was greatly interested, not having been aboard a steamer before. He said "Him big-fellow steamer. Plenty room"! A tank load of water arrived this morning, which occupied Loman's attention. Went to Luxton's, with Messr. Gee & Brown, in p.m.
