of lands on the Mountain, stating that the people in Winchester
prefer to wait for definite plans of the location of the University
before they incur expenses of surveying; stating further that they
are willing to incur the expenses of cleaning out and putting in
good order some of the principal Springs around Rowe's Cabin, and
clearing the timber on some of the most prominent Bluffs so as
to give good views into the valleys. 3pp.

for Col. Gwynn to go to Sewanee to inspect the grounds and make
suggestions as he may think advisable; discussion of the turnpike
and railroad; Col. Armfield's desire to have Col. Gwynn spend
some time with him; more discussions about the turnpike and the
railroad which will reconcile the people to the Sewanee location;
detailed remarks on how and where the roads must run, and the
grading; his hope that the good people of the county will get
up a picnic on a grand scale; the number of people who may
