U. P. Tenn.

Dear Sir,

Your kindly attentive,
and, but for my inability to accept the same, most
welcome invitation to attend the laying of the Corner
Stone of the University of the South, has just come
to hand.

I extremely regret that unavoidable engage=
=ments will deny me the pleasure of attending the
most interesting ceremony.

With my best wishes
for the ultimate, and complete success of the immensely
important undertaking, and my kindest regards
to yourself, I subscribe myself

Most respectfully,

Yr. Obt. Servt.
