Rt. Revd and Dear Sir:

Your favour of the 5th inst
inviting me to attend the "Ceremony of laying the Cor-
ner Stone of the Principal Building of the Universi-
ty of the South" has been received.

Thanking you for your polite
invitation I regret to say: that it is absolutely
impossible for me to be present, without neglect-
ing very pressing and important duties. I am there
fore compelled, (very reluctantly,) to ask to be excused.

Very Respectfully

Your Obedient Servant,

J. M. Curtis

Rt. Revd Bishop Otey,
