A joint committee reported to the Board of Aldermen and the House of Delegates in regards to a lawsuit which the City filed against the Columbia and Puget Sound Railroad Company. The committee recommended that another committee be appointed to carry on negotiations with the railroad company. In addition, the report noted that the Corporation Counsel "acted in good faith...and for the best interest of the City," and that there are no signs of corruption. To the President Board of Aldermen and the President House Delegates We your committe appointed to investigate the matter of the dismissal of the suit of the City vs. The Columbia and Puget Sound Rail Road Co. Beg leave to submit the following as our report. After careful consideration of all facts that we have had before us regarding the dismissal of the suit of the "City vs. The Columbia and Puget Sound Rail Road Co" We find that this suit has been reinstated by our corporation counsel and is before the court ready for trial and is now on the same basis as it was before it was dismissed. Taking these facts into consideration we do not think it would be desirable for this committee to further investigate the matters which have been placed before them as this question of legal rights claimed by the Rail Road Co will soon be decided in the courts. We do wish to say that as to any question of corruption which have been intimated against the corporation counsel of this City, we are satisfied that he acted in good faith, and did what he considered for the best interest of the City

It is our judgement that the best interests of the City will be subserved by suspending further action and leave the question to be settled by the Courts We would recomend that a Joint Committee of six, three from the Board of Aldermen and three from the House of Delegates be appointed to confer with the Columbia and Puget Sound Rail Road Company and make such recomendations as will be satisfactory, both to the Rail Road Company and the City. Whereby the Rail R. Co will surrender any aledged rights they may now claim and that they will move their track out on Rail Road Ave.
