215 Common Council of the City of Seattle. March 2/83 Be it remembered that on this the 2d day of March 1883 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to law. The following Offices are present to wit: His Honor the acting Mayor councilman John Collins and Councilmen O F Cosper Chas F. Clancy, Fred Gasch, Chas McDonald, G.L. Manning and U M Rasin Thereupon the following proceedings are had: Petitions Received From F.A. Minick sub-contractor for a partial payment on account of Jackson Street Grade. From A.S. Miller et al for changing the grade on Columbia and 5th Streets. Refered to the Committee on Streets and Street Improvements From J.B. Huntley for refunding taxes paid. Referred to Finance Committee From A.A. Denny et al for refunding to University Exhi bition licenses paid. Adopted & Warrant to be drawn favor L.J. Powell From J.H. Horrell for a retail liquor license. Referred to Committee on Licenses and Revenue From Smith & Farrar et al for a gas lamp foot of Main Street. Referred dto Committee on Gas Lights. From J.F. McNaught et al for grading Main Street Referred to Committee on Streets Reports Rec'd From Street Commissioner. Referred to Street Committee From Surveyor showing work done on 2d & other sts grade. Referred to Street Committee From the Clerk. Referred to Judiciary Committee From the Treasurer. Referred to Finance From the Treasurer on King and 7th Streets sidewalks. Referred to Finance Committee From Harbor Master. Referred to Comtee on Harbor & wharves Committees Report Rec'd From Fire & Water supply recommending the granting

216 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Mar 2/83 of the petition of Fred E Sander for the right to use a building as a Wash House. Adopted From Judiciary & Legislature approving the report of the City Justice. Adopted From Fire and Water Supply reommending the granting of the petition of Seattle Lumber & Comcial Co. for repairs to Madison Street Slip. Adopted Ordered that the Committee on Harbor, Wharves be & they are hereby instructed to secure bids for such repairs as may be necessary From Streets recommending the granting of the petition of Amos Brown et al for Improving Spring Street Adopted & atty instructed to submit an Ordinance therefor. From Streets recommending the granting of the petition of Geo D Hill et al for Improving Spring Street, Adopted & Atty instructed to submit an ordinance therefor From Judiciary & Legislative approving Attys report Adopted From Streets recommending the grading of James, Cherry & Columbia Streets from Front to the Alley between Front & 2d Streets. Adopted & Atty instructed to submit an Ordinance therefor From Streets recommending the grading of James Street on the petition of Henrietta M Halber et al therefor. Adopted & atty instructed to submit an Ordinance therefor. From Streets recommending the rejection of the petition of Geo D Hill et al for Imrpoving 5th street. Adopted & petition denied From Streets recommending the payment of certain bills for hauling gravel. Rejected Bids Received And now the Council proceeds to open & consider the bids for the side walk to be constructed on Marion Street under Ordinance No 364, which bids are as follows to wit: S F Hoole per M B M [thousand board feet] $17.00 S G Simpson $16.20

217 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Mar 2/83 Hendrickson & Regan per M B M[thousand board feet] $15.90 D S Hill $16.50 And now it appearing to the Council that the bid of Hendrickson & Regan is thelowest and best bid; and that they are the lowest responsible bidders. Itis ordered that the contract be awarded to them upon their giving a bond with good and sufficient surities in teh sum of $500.00/ And not the Council porceeds to open & consider the bids for the sidewalk to be constructed on Battery Street under Ordinance No 362, which bids are as follows to wit: S F Hoole per M B M[thousand board feet] $18.00 S G Simpson per M B M[thousand board feet] $16.90 D S Hill per M B M[thousand board feet] $17.50 And now it appearing to the Council that the bid of S G Simpson is the lowest and best bid; and that he is the lowest responsible bidder. It is ordered that the contract be awarded him upon his giving a bond with good and sufficient surities in the sum of $150.00 Claims Paid The following claims having been duly audited by the Council as ordered paid by Warrants drawn on the funds and in the amounts following to wit: E S Osborne Clerk No 298 $ 90.
