Very cold this morning and
indeed all day. Mr Edward
Hewes (an agent for a drug
house in in Frederic City) was
here. "Ned Hopkins boy was
here & I extracted a tooth for
him. Charles Stabler was also
here for advice & medicine for
his wife. Charley came home
about one.oclock to day from
his Baltimore "Richlieu" :
Glenwood trip occupying three days.
Charley & Willie went
to Dr. Thomas place to see a
sick child of Branson Cook's
on Roland Moore's place and
after supper they both went to
Mechanicsville to a "Lodge
meeting." C having again
broken down his own buggy and
mine being just returned from
the shop, they took it. It looks
and feels like another snow
storm.

Ther: 19 degrees Clear Wind N.W.
Saturday, March 8th, 1890
Not quite as cold as yesterday
but still good bracing winter weather.
Edward kept me awake until after
four oclock this a.m. having an almost
incessant cough from bronchial
irritation fortunately not croupy but
very distressing. Louis Hill was here
to see Charley. The chimney on the
east end of the house took fire and
burned furiously for a time
fortunately it was before the wind commenced
blowing as hard as it did a few hours
later in the day. I drove over to Roland
Moore's to prescribe for his wife. Charley
went with me to Branson Cook's where
he prescribed for a sick child. Mr:
Amos Holland called & took my dog
"Banjo" home with him. I having
given him to him. A tenant house on
Jos: T Moore's place took fire & burned
to the ground burning to death an old
colored woman "Mary Budd" she being
alone in the house at the time it took
fire. Alice Peirce walked over before
supper time. After tea Charley Dora
Willie & Alice walked over to Ernest's
place carrying the violincello Guitar
& violin to spend the evening. I think
it an insane freak. They came home
about mid night.
