Clear & beautiful day again. I drove down to Ashton & started to go to "Marden" but met Mrs: R R Moore Jr: on the road and turned back. I took Dora with me as far as the Insurance Office. I brought her back with me. Charley & Mr William Bolyn arrived from "Lincoln" Va.: about 6. o'clk p.m. with three horses one of which is sold (through Harry Lee) to a gentleman in "Laurence" as a saddle horse. They drove "Bell" to a light "no top" wagon, bringing a colored boy ("Frank") who rode & led the other horses one of which ("Socks") C brought over to sell or exchange as it does not suit him being a colt & a "fool" (as C says) & he has no time to bother with such an animal.

Cloudy Ther. 63 SAT. APRIL 8th, VariableWind

Cloudy & warmer. Charley left for "Lincoln" Va. at 6-30 a.m. taking Dora with him to Gaithersburg where she will take cars to Washington D.C. Charley exchanged his "Socks" horse for an "old Jay bird" of a sorrel horse from Ed Gilpin, the horse he gets is of good stock, and if he does not turn out to have some bad traits after he gets some rest and flesh on his bones, he may do good service for C. and the one he is parting with is of no use at all to him. I walked down to Ashton for some "vaccine points" and after dinner drove to "Marden" & vaccinated all three of R R Moore Jr's children, it being the 3d time for the two boys but the first for the baby. Willie worked in the garden hauling & spreading manure etc.
