57 [degrees] Clear N.W.
Ther. THURS. MAY 4th, 1899. Wind
Still quite cool, but very
pleasant weather. Alice and
Fanny & the baby came and
spent the day with us, going
back to "Fairfield" before supper.
Afternoon I walked down
to Ashton & back. Was called
in next door to prescribe for
Mrs Robison, who was threatened
with "dysentery". After
supper went to the store &
P.O. and called again to
see Mrs R.

56 Clear & Cloudy
Ther. FRI. MAY 5th, 1899. Wind
Weather still cool & pleasant.
We heard this morning of Edwd
Kemmer's two sons (Chas & Robt)
having met with a "serious
accident with no hope"
and Harriet and I walked down to
"Bloomfield" to see Hollie Bentley.
This evening we hear from Alexandria
that the young men
were drowned
last evening in
Mystic River or lake. Willie
came over to enquire if we had
heard anything later. He took
tea with us & took the last sad
news back to "Fairfield": it is
indeed the saddest that has
come to any of our connections
in my recollection: The name
of "Kummer" in this country will
be extinct after Edwd Kummer
dies. I went to the store and
telegraph office several times
during the day & again after
supper.
