stubble field that had a tolerable set of clover on it,
The cattle had been allowed to run on it one day too
long after a wet spell and had left deep tracks.
Our host had dug a few acres of potatoes which he
informed us had averaged only 20 bush. Some fine
cows and a two year old Aldernay bull were noticed
in a good clover pasture where oyster shell lime
had been applied. Soon after returning to the house
we were invited to partake of a bountiful supper to
which all did ample justice while discussing the
politics of the day.
The minutes of the last meeting and the one previous.
where the book was not present were read when
our host was called upon to read an essay that he
had prepared for the Club: this able effort upon the all
important subject of how to get a set of clover brought
forth considerable discussion, all admitting that the
writer had begun at the beginning in advising more care
and labor in preparing the seed bed and applying
greater quantities of fertilizers adapted to the growth
of that crop. The essay becoming the property of the
club it was decided upon motion to have it printed
in the American Farmer + Sentinel, and the Sec
was appointed to attend to it.
