On Adam, 5,200 years ago

Asia is the first place where man
lived in Paradise, in the East.
Through the transgression of the apple
he was removed and separated from this grace.
Out of shame he shut himself up in a house,
and he ate the bread [made by] the sweat of his brow.
For five thousand two hundred years the world remained
damned because of this sin.

On Asia

It sits above the other two regions,
thus mankind originates from here.
The sciences and arts thrived
when the law was issued by God.
Here, there was a childbirth unlike any other1should read, "i parti"
that of the sweet Blessed Virgin.
Our redemption was there,
and here the great herald will come at the End.

On the Four Rivers

Four great and wondrous rivers
stretch through the lands of this region
that are famous among all living beings.
For three of them the source is known.
The fourth comes out of fiery lands1i.e., the Sahara Desert
and stretches through Ethiopia until it empties
into the Egyptian Sea2i.e., the southern part of the Levantine Sea, and it is called "Khalij" 3The medieval Italian word translates to "the Fog" or "the Haze", even though this is borrowed from the Arabic word for "canal."
Egion, or Nile, and its source is unknown.
