when Saint Paul came to the place where Saint
Denis was, knowing him to be a very great cleric,
he was able to convert him quickly because of this, with the aid of Our
Lord who made it to be so. And thus the two of them became
very good clerics, as is contained and described at length in
their legends. And in this way the noble cleric Saint
Denis, who had been a Saracen his whole life,
became a good and true Christian. He used his knowledge and his time,
from that day forward, to the health of his soul. This eclipse did not
deceive him because he had knowledge of astronomy, rather from it
he became afterwards a man of such holy and good life that he gained
as his reward the realm of Paradise. You have heard about what eclipses
are; if you want to understand them better, that would not be a bad thing,
and everyone could benefit from it, for they are an indication and demonstration
that certain matters have great significance. Astronomers find things out
through astronomy, whether it be the loss of certain property, or famine,
or wars, or the death of kings or princes -- things that will necessarily happen
on earth, such that one can investigate them through reason.
