more courage, fortitude, and words of consolation, seem almost meaningless in the face of a grief like yours. I want you to know, my dear friend, that you are in my thoughts, and that I would help you if I could.

If the love and sympathy of many

who knew & honored your noble husband can console you, then indeed you will find consolation. Believe that I am one of these & that I grieve for, & with you -

Yours in sincerest friendship,

Sacred to the Memory of Senator Stanford of California

Your Husbands hands that lie so still Upon his pulseless breast Have fought their battles soon the crown And more are layed [sic] to rest

The weary feet so tired and worn Have ceased their tiresom [sic] trod To walk the gold and pearly street And dwell at home with God

Oh Lady dear why do you weep For him on yonder shore He's only gone to joine [sic] the band Of your loved ones gone before

Then do not mourn for he who sleeps Upon his Saviour breast All free from pain and sorrow too He shall forever rest

Weep not for your dear loved one Hes crossed the chilly sea And now hes on the other shore Where all is safe and free

There was nothing half so dear to you As his dear presence here But would you call him back to pain To sorrow and to fear

And then our Savior needed him To make the band complet [sic] Around the Snow White Throne of God Where music is so sweet

Weep not nor mourn for that dear one For he is now at rest He would not have been taken but The Lord he knowest best

And then when death shall set it seal Upon your marble how It will be so sweet to meet with him Who dwells in glory now
