that your dear one had, although it is his father's middle name. I too have known grief, for I lost my first little boy at the age of seven months old, and my only daughter seven years ago at ten years of age. All these things have made my heart very tender for all little children, and that is why I am so much interested in the Kindergarten. The need here is very great and if you would consider my appeal, I would gladly send you names for of reference or you could have anything sent through our National Bank, for the benefit of The Meadville Free Kindergarten.
Yours Respectfully, Elizabeth R. Culbertson

Dear Madam
Reading so much of your beautiful generosity in giving to schools etc. I feel that I will not be repulsed in asking for a small donation. We are a small company of Christians, out here in the country, who are trying to finish a church building. We need about five hundred ($500) dollars to finish it nicely. It will then be but a very plain building. We believe the Lord will help us get the money needed to finish it, but we also believe in helping our selves. I there fore ask you if you will please donate the sum needed to finish the building. If you will do so, I feel certain that God will reward you, and abundantly bless you in so doing. Please do not pass this by as not worthy

your notice. I can refer you to the Pacific Press Publishing Company of Oakland, Calif, as to our standing. Also to Hon Lem Allen, Post Master, St Clair. Nev.
Personally I am the treasurer of the church and considered honest and reliable I once was a friend of your dear friend, Mrs Winnie, Carson, Nev - before I married & left that place. Now please do not sonsign [consign] this to the waste basket, but win an added blessing from God, in helping those who are striving to get a neat and suitable house where in to worship our God.
Yours very respectfully

Dear Madame:
In a copy of the Examiner dated Oct 24 I confer that you are a lady of enterprise and means and wish to lay the following proposition before you.
I have invented two ways for rafting logs. One for short logs and one for long timber. In the boom there are no chains, the rig is fast against the boom, and allso fast against the log and cannot get either above or below the boom. This rafting is only one tier deep, and will not bounce on the waves.
In putting logs two or more tiers deep in the water, they will bounce with the waves, and easily break up. In Lake Michigan I have towed logs 300 miles distance, from 2000000 to 3000000 feet in
